The carport A–Z

If you are thinking of getting a carport or a similar structure (covered by the Danish rules for small buildings, the “småhusreglement”), you can follow this guide. But remember that this is only a guide and not a 100% guaranteed route to putting up a carport:

  1. Choose the right carport and/or shed solution from our large catalogue and range.
  2. Contact the building department of your municipality (kommune). The easiest way is via the municipality’s website, where you type ETABLERING AF CARPORT (“putting up a carport”) in the search field.
  3. Make a drawing of your plot showing the position of the house and the position and size (W*L*H) of the carport solution you want, and state the distance from the carport to the neighbouring boundary and the road boundary respectively. Send this to the municipality. The municipality then typically has 2 weeks to reply as to whether the carport you want can be put up or whether you need to apply for an exemption (building permit).
  4. It is a good idea to talk to your neighbours about where you would like to place the carport. Being on good terms with the neighbours is always important.
  5. When you are ready for your new carport, contact ALLVIEW and order the carport solution you want.
  6. First, pad foundations for the carport need to be dug and cast. If you are building a new house and there is no paving on the driveway yet, a height must be set for the finished paving so that the carport and any shed can be installed at the correct height. It takes about ½ a day to make the pad foundations, and you need to be at home so that the position of the carport can be determined.
  7. Remember that a carport/shed has downpipes, which must subsequently be connected to an existing rainwater drain. If there is no paving on the driveway, it is a good idea to lay the drainpipes before the paving is laid. An electrical power cable can also usefully be run in the ground alongside the drainpipes. Also remember to run a cable for an EV charger if needed.
  8. If you would like a shed with your carport, bear in mind that a shed with sides is installed level, so the paving should also be level where the shed is placed, allowing the sides to sit evenly against the paving surface.
  9. 1 week after the pad foundations for the carport have been cast, we come and install the carport and any shed. This takes from 1 to 3 days, depending on the carport solution chosen.
  10. Once the carport has been installed, you must register it with the BBR (the Danish Building and Housing Register) so that the carport is covered by your home insurance.
