Go over the surface to check whether any scuffs or scratches have appeared during the year. Scuffs and scratches should be touched up with a suitable metal paint (e.g. FLÜGGER Metal Pro) in colour RAL7021, gloss level 25. Wash the carport with lukewarm water once a year. If it is located close to the sea (salt water), you should wash the carport 2 times a year.
All nuts and bolts should be re-tightened once a year. Do not use force when re-tightening. You just need to make sure the bolts have not worked loose over the year. If overtightened, the bolts may break, in which case you must immediately fit a new bolt, washer and nut.
Roof panels should be washed 2 times a year. Use a soft brush to sweep dirt and leaves off the roof. Then wash the roof panels with lukewarm water with algae remover added. Take particular care at the ends of the roof panels, where algae typically build up.
Gutters and downpipes should be cleaned 2 times a year. Make sure to remove leaves, pine needles and other debris from the gutters, and make sure the downpipes are free-flowing. It’s a good idea to fit a leaf guard (e.g. Exponet) in the gutters to make it easier to keep them clear of leaves.
Check that the foundations are intact and free of major cracks. If there are cracks in the foundations and these move when the carport is put under pressure (push against the carport), this must be repaired immediately.
Tool sheds and side & end walls can be supplied with either coated steel or composite boards as wall cladding. Posts and wall panels in coated steel should be treated as described under STEEL FRAME.
Composite cladding should be brushed down with a soft brush once a year. Then wash the surface with lukewarm water, adding algae remover if algae have formed.
In winter, watch out for sudden, heavy snowfall. A good rule of thumb: if you have to shovel snow because you can’t get out of your front door without getting snow in your boots, you should also clear the snow off the carport roof. This is best done with a stiff broom or a snow shovel (avoid scratching the roof panels).
Do not walk on the roof. It is slippery, and you cannot step on the roof panels without breaking them.
Walk on the roof rafters if you need to go up.
Remember: You always go up on the roof at your own risk!
Large amounts of snow place a very heavy load on the roof structure, with a risk of the roof panels and rafters deforming. Remember in particular that wet snow is very heavy, and if there is much more than 20 cm of wet snow on the roof, it must be removed immediately. Avoid using road salt as an alternative to clearing the snow by hand.
